November 25th – Thanksgiving 2010

Thanksgiving Day is the one day our nation gives thanks to God for all that we have. Although times are tough and the yearning for relief is palpable, America has an abundance of things to be thankful for. For many people, this is a holiday of simply being grateful and giving thanks for what they have received during the year, while others are thankful that God has helped them to weather this tumultuous economic storm. However, for too many of our neighbors and fellow American's, as we head into the holiday season, there sure doesn't seem to be much to grab onto and feel good about. Let's remind ourselves however, that we are the freest nation in the world and that America is still the land of opportunity. Americans can also thank God that we have not had another terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11.

We should also be thankful for everyone and anyone, from President Bush to President Obama, from the TSA agent at the airport to the cop on the beat, and anyone else who has played a role in keeping us safe. There are many ways to celebrate and express thanks at Thanksgiving. Even in difficult times, there are always things for which to be grateful. Those of us who are healthy can be thankful that we've been blessed with good health. Another obvious thing to be thankful for is the loved ones and friends that God has surrounded us with. How about we be thankful for the kind stranger that says or does something nice, just because.

We can all be grateful for freedom to worship as we want whether we be Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Mormon, Jew or atheist. We can speak our opinion without fear of death for speaking it. Yes America we have problems but we also take so much for granted! If we take a little quiet time America and reflect on what we've been blessed with I'm sure we could come up with a “ba–zillion” things to be thankful for.

Okay you knew it was coming. Here's just a few of the things that I am thankful for.

1. First of all I'm thankful for salvation through the blood of Jesus.
2. My wife of forthy three years, three months and fifteen days.
3. My Church family and friends that make up The House of God.
4. I'm so thankful for my sister and brothers that are yet alive.
5. I am thankful for each of my many nephews and nieces.
6. I am grateful to God for all my Grand Children.
7. For being alive to see the United States of America elect its first black president.
8. I thank God that I sleep in a warm bed each night.
9. I'm thankful for my old car that's still running pretty good.
10. I am thankful for my dog Spot; Oh I forgot I don't have a dog but I do have a sense of humor and I'm thankful for that.

Now that I've shared a few of the things that I'm so grateful to God for; how about if you take a little time and say thank you Lord.
